Death in Lands of Arda gives you a choice: wait for help where you fell, or respawn at your bindstone and take an experience and gold penalty based on your level.

What happens when you die

  • Nearby party members in the same area are alerted that you need help.
  • You get a death popup that shows your exact XP and gold penalty before you choose to respawn.
  • If you do nothing, you stay dead and can wait for another player to recover you.
  • If you respawn, you are resurrected, fully healed, stripped of negative effects, and sent back to your bindstone.
  • Logging out while dead does not bypass the death state. The server restores it when you log back in.

Standard respawn penalties

  • The base death penalty is 200 XP per level and 1,000 gold per level.
  • XP loss is adjusted by your reincarnation tier.
  • Gold loss is not reduced by reincarnation.
  • XP loss cannot drop you below the start of your current level.
  • Non-reincarnated characters at level 25 or lower use the grace-period values instead.

XP penalty per level by reincarnation tier

Reincarnation tier Standard Grace period
None 200 66
1st reincarnation 100 --
2nd reincarnation 50 --
3rd reincarnation 25 --
4th reincarnation 12 --

Bindstones and respawn

  • Respawning always sends you to your current bindstone.
  • Bindstones also control where you are sent in other relocation cases, such as restricted-area returns after logout or server reset.

XP floor by level

Death penalties use the Lands of Arda XP curve, but they will not de-level you below the minimum XP for your current level. For example, a level 20 character cannot be pushed below 225,000 XP by a death penalty, and a level 30 character cannot be pushed below 850,000 XP.

Special cases

  • Players resurrected by Army Unfallen are subject to half of the standard XP death penalty.
