Desert Heat is a survival system used in hot regions. If you stay out too long without water, your character builds heat and starts suffering penalties.

How it works

  • Heat builds over time while you are in a heat zone.
  • The timing varies by area, but usually rises in regular short intervals.
  • Some areas reduce heat buildup at night.

Heat stages

Stage What happens
Early heat You start getting thirst warnings.
High heat You get stronger warnings and visual fatigue effects.
Heat exhaustion You take ongoing penalties to movement and stats, plus periodic damage.

Water bottles

  • Drink a Water Bottle to reset heat buildup.
  • Drinking returns an Empty Water Bottle.
  • Use an empty bottle near a valid water source to refill it.
  • If no source is close enough, the refill fails and the empty bottle is returned.
