When Finculin, Feanor's descendent, became a member of the Gwaith-i-Mirdain, he earned the praise of his uncle Celebrimbor and the Lord of Gifts, Annatar. Falling into the Dark Lords trap, Finculin was not corrupted but abandoned all interests except his smithing which produced some remarkable results. The weapon he bore was one of them.
