The largest part of the Chyan infantry is of bowmen, or Tirandazâ (Ch. "Archers"). The usual tactic is the Swarm of Fire. The light mounted archers surround and harass the enemy, avoiding any close contact, until it begins to lose its moral and cohesion. The heavy cavalry then charges and crushes the enemy. The infantry is usually used only to make a impression of mass. It is efficiently used only when the Cloud of Arrows tactic is possible, that is when the bowmen can be protected by fortification, difficult terrain or heavy infantry, to avoid any hand-to-hand fight and decimate the enemy by their sustained shots. The red battle dress of the Tirandazâ offers therefore little protection and was designed to grant a maximum of mobility.
