Cheaper rebuilds, a lighter early death penalty, bigger quest rewards and gentler falls. Plus new Harad, Mordor and Dol Amroth cloaks and praying fixes.
Rebuild cost reduced from 1,000 gold per level to 500 gold per level
Death XP penalty during the grace period (non-reincarnate & level 25 or below) reduced from half the standard penalty to a third (200 / 3 = ~67 XP per level)
Moderate increase to XP and gold rewards for many quests.
Tuned slip and fall damage scripts to scale more appropriately per area/level. Overall not as punishing, especially in early areas.
Fix attempts for the "too many instructions" error for some players when joining the server
Praying altar "uses" were previously consumed for the day after the first use of a specific altar, for all characters. Each altar now properly allows each character the chance to pray once per in-game calendar day. More feedback messages will now display when praying as well.
Fixed male run animations when wielding a bow and moving with increased speed
Mithlond blacksmith fixes: removed NPC items, adjusted placeables to prevent getting stuck behind the counter
New HD textures for skin VFX, e.g. Stoneskin, Barkskin, etc.
Weapon buffs that would normally be allowed on your equipped ammo will no longer fail when targeting your character. E.g. if you are holding a bow and cast Flame Weapon on yourself, it will target your equipped arrows instead of failing.
Location, bindstones, and other persistent player data have been overhauled and cleaned up. Behavior is mostly the same:
After a server reset, if you log in within a short grace period of the server booting up, you will be sent back to your last location. Otherwise, you will be sent to your bindstone.
In the same server session (e.g. no reset), if your last location does not allow your return and you log back in past the grace period, you will be sent back to your bindstone. Otherwise, you will stay at your last location.
Resolves the recent issue of getting stuck at the login area
Fixed a bug that allowed the Greater Rod of Spellcasting to bypass "self-only" targeting for certain buffs/spells
Target/AOE preview added to all (or most) custom spells. We didn't test all of them, so please report if any are missing, inaccurate, or otherwise don't seem right.
All spells have gone through a review:
Ensured damage-related spells are receiving the reincarnate damage bonus
Updated many spell descriptions to accurately reflect changes and/or updated scripts to match descriptions
Many fixes and other minor adjustments
See the new spells page on the website for a current list of all spells and their descriptions
Fixed "Energy Immunity: Acid" to have visual & sound effects when cast
Fixed script references for the following spells, which likely did nothing previously:
Barad Girithlin in Girithlin connected to the road leading to Minhiriath, so southern Cardolan is now also accessible from the west. The world map has been updated.
Fix for Halbarad conversation (Weathertop quest)
Removed the darkness special ability from Haradrim Priests (Vatra) to address Fortress of the Moon crashes. Needs testing.
Corrected encounters in Mûmakan areas (Orb mobs now spawn near Orb dungeons, etc.) and buffed the CR of Mûmakan elf archers a bit
Angmar updates:
New cloaks for mobs and bosses
Boss descriptions added and slight edits
Angmar orcs' CR slightly raised to match the CR of soldiers
Relocated patrol leaders to Cargash Keep surroundings
Added a new leader to the Carn Dûm streets
Added a road from Cargash Keep north over the mountains
Lore entries move to a central database with unread markers, popups and sorting. Plus journal transfer fixes, bank logs, and Greater Rod of Spellcasting improvements.
All lore entries are now stored in a centralized database. When lore entries are updated/changed as part of an update, player journals will now automatically receive the updated lore info if they have discovered that entry, e.g. you don't have to run over the trigger again to get the updated content.
New/updated journal entries will now flash in the journal to indicate they are "unread" until you view them
Newly discovered lore will now show as a notification/popup at the top of the screen instead of a console message
Greater Rod of Spellcasting now stores the list of spells primed on the rod in the item description. It will also display metamagic info in both the description and when casting a spell on the rod. All existing buff rods will require a one-time auto-clear due to this update (sorry 🙂)
The spell Blackstaff now works on the Magic Staff item type. Spell description updated as well.
The spell Disintegrate fixed to match the spell description
Added a "Player Inventory" tab for listing and searching through the current character's inventory
Added the ability to transfer from bank to inventory and vice versa directly from the journal; you must have persistent storage open at a bank. (Thanks to all who helped test!)
Added an "item type" dropdown filter (with counts) to the Bank storage and Player Inventory tabs. Filter/search values will no longer reset when switching between tabs.
Added "cover images" to most lore entries. Existing lore entries will be updated with the new images the next time you run over those triggers.
Added ~10 more lore triggers
Several performance improvements, visual changes, and other tweaks
Player Journals arrive with account-wide notes, discoverable lore and Bank of Arda search. Plus reworked Cure Wounds healing and a stronger Black Scale.
Added new Player Journals with a custom NUI window. All characters will automatically be given the new journal in their inventory. Access it via the unique ability in the radial menu.
Record persistent notes for all characters on your account
Record & search all encountered area lore triggers (account-wide)
The first character on your account to "discover" each lore trigger will gain ~1,000 XP (reincarnate-adjusted)
Many existing lore triggers adjusted/changed, and new ones added throughout various areas of the module. More are likely to be added in the future.
As of this update, 75 lore triggers exist throughout Arda. Can you discover them all? (A possible reward/achievement of some kind may be added in the future.)
List & search through your Bank of Arda persistent storage
The "Greater Rod of Spell Casting" now has a "Rename Item" ability to allow changing and coloring its name via a new NUI window, so that multiple rods can be distinguished more easily. Existing rods will automatically be updated; access it in the rod's radial menu.
Bindstone NUI bug fixes:
Commas in player names causing the name to split into multiple rows/players
The "Cure Wounds" spells (and by extension, potions) use a new formula that heals based on a percentage of the target's maximum HP plus a flat amount, which will scale better with higher-level characters.
The Black Scale forge: increased AC to +4 & removed "Cloak of the Heavens" as a forge requirement
Fixed a typo in Bolg's drop list: Ghrazîm Banner now drops
Reverted previous adjustments to racial stats due to them affecting existing characters. This may (likely will) change again in the future. If we aren't able to find a programmable solution for current characters, we will offer character rebuilds or something else along those lines.
Raised the CR of Rendar tomb skeletons (more HP) to match other mobs in the area
Removed old longbow models/inventory icons that may have been overriding the new HD models/icons
Fix attempt for player characters randomly stating "I don't have anything to smoke!"
Fixed a bug that caused persistent storage containers to appear in dungeons and other areas incorrectly. Reverted back to proper chests, book piles, etc.
Fall of the Lights quest fixes and new NUI windows for bindstones, transfer chests, shared imports and player storage. Plus HD longbows and item fixes.
Visual cloaks arrive alongside the Fall of the Lights quest and a new Mûmakan dungeon. Plus death penalty changes, a quiver crafting system, and forge updates.
Cloaks have been upgraded to the newer NWN version of "visual cloaks", meaning your actual cloak will now appear on your character. You must have the visual cloaks setting enabled in your game settings (search for "cloaks").
All "armor cloaks" have been removed from all player and NPC armor. It's quite likely we've missed some, so please report any armor pieces that still have a "built-in" cloak as part of the armor, or any double cloak effects, for players and NPCs alike.
All existing cloaks and armor in player persistent storage have been swapped and upgraded to the latest version.
Every character will have all existing armor and cloaks automatically swapped and upgraded to the latest version.
If you still have armor that has a "cloak" as part of the armor, and it was not automatically swapped and exchanging it at the Altar to Aulë does not resolve it, please let us know!
Most NPCs will now likely be cloakless... we'll work on adding cloaks back over the next couple of updates.
Item Customizer & Alternate Combat Animations, accessible via the craft menu:
Added the ability to change cloak model, dye cloaks, and hide/show cloaks (must re-enable visible cloaks in your game settings)
Added the ability to edit your character description
ACP (alternate combat animations) now customizable
Map pins are now shared across all characters on your account. Previously saved map pins will likely no longer be visible. Map exploration will continue to be character-specific, so characters still need the map explored to see the saved map pin(s).
Will now spawn slightly to the side of corpses to prevent blocking loot
Slight changes/additions to spawned bosses (some "lower-end" bosses may spawn in pairs)
Some spawn locations removed/added. Up-to-date list: Ardana (the Lady of Darkness), Ardûval (the Stargazer), Balrog of Moria, Celedhring (Chilling Silver), Gaballol (Uruk-Hai), Gamia, Orthîr (Tw. "Mountain Lord"), Veryal en Cimoniemor
Curse Song inflicts damage equal to the Bard's Perform skill. After Bard level 25 and a Perform skill of 75, the damage will be 50% higher, and for a level 30 Bard with 100 Perform, the damage will be doubled.
Blinding Speed: slightly reduced duration from 1.5x turns per Dex modifier to 1x, fixed in-game feat description.
Racial stats of several custom races adjusted, both increases and decreases.
Arrows of the Old Forest: 1d6 Magical Damage, 1d6 Piercing Damage
Forge Slaying Arrows: removed the default slay ability and replaced it with a custom slay/smite script. All bosses and other creatures with immunity to death are immune to the slay, but you will still get the extra smite damage, which acts as a "fallback" if you roll a slay on an immune creature. Undead are the only exception: their death immunity is bypassed, but bosses are still immune.
New "effect" status to indicate One Ring bearers. It will appear as an effect icon by your player portrait, in your character sheet, and when examining other players.
This icon also serves as an indicator that the bearer has an active chance to spawn Nazgûl in certain areas of Arda, whether the ring is equipped or not. The effect icon will flash when a Nazgûl draws near.
Stats slightly reduced. Existing One Rings will be unaffected unless swapped at the Altar to Aulë. Stats are likely to change again in an upcoming update, which will significantly rebalance the rings of power.
Removed the "inspect" popup window background (low quality/hurt readability). For those who wish to keep the inspect/info window background, you can download it from the Discord announcement and place it in your local NWN "override" folder.
New models for various base game placeables (chests, crates, etc.)
Rebuilding your character in the Houses of Healing has a new pricing structure: 1,000 GP per level, and if you are a reincarnate, that cost will be multiplied by your reincarnate level + 1. E.g. a non-reincarnate level 25 will pay 25,000 GP. A 1st reincarnate level 25 will pay 50,000 GP. And so on.
The first patch notes we kept, builds v1002 to v1338, from the move to NWN: Enhanced Edition. Arda has been running since 2002, but older patch notes aren't available.
